Oye, mi gente, you're listening to the Red Lips Real Talk Podcast, where we talk about life, love, and everything in between. You already know, it's time to get real. Dale.

Fashion doesn't expire. It evolves. For too long, society has tried to attach an age limit to style as if confidence, expression, and self-definition somehow come with a cutoff date. But every year, that idea gets challenged more and more by women who are proving that getting older doesn't mean getting quieter.

It means getting clearer about who you are. This episode is about presence. It's about women who are stepping into every room, every stage, and every spotlight with style that doesn't ask for permission. Not to look younger, not to blend in, but to fully express themselves at every stage of life. Because the truth is, fashion was never meant to have an expiration date.

It was meant to reflect identity, and identity doesn't retire. So let's get into it Hey, ladies. How's everybody doing? Hey. Good. Hey. You guys had a good weekend? Yes. I went to see The Devil Wears Prada. So did I. And I'm gonna tell you, I went by myself. Another thing that I'm very proud of because I'm not the type of person t- that's very comfortable doing a lot of things by myself.

Mm-hmm. Um, I showed up, and there was a lot of women there that were really dressed up, like they were going to weddings. Yeah. And I don't know why I g- I thought that was, like, so cute. They were just, like, so excited to see the movie, and they were just, like... I don't know if they were girlfriends or sisters.

I, I, I mean, I wouldn't know, but they were having so much fun, and it was a really nice thing to see that. And at the same time, it's like, it's been two decades- Yeah. Yeah ... since the first movie came out, so it has to be, like, it hits you in the feels. Right. It's, like, very nostalgic. Did you guys feel that way?

I did. Absolutely. I loved it. Yeah. It was so good. It was a great movie. You loved it? Yeah, I did, very much. Yeah. I li- I liked it. I wouldn't... Personally, I wouldn't say I loved it. I loved the first one. Right. Like, the first one is one that I could watch over and over and over again. The second one, I don't know if I could watch it over and over again.

Mm-hmm. Um, I did appreciate a lot of things, like for example, character development. I felt like they really tried to show growth in the characters. Yeah. Um, the fashion, oh, man. Yeah. Especially the fashion in that a lot of these women are, are older. Right. Right? The m- one of the main characters, Miranda, she's supposed to be in her 70s.

Yeah. She was, like, literally one of the be- the best-dressed ones. Yeah. She looked great. They all, everyone looked... The budget, I mean, the budget on the fashion must have been insane. Oh, yeah. That alone. So I lo- I loved that. T- the parts that I really didn't care for too much, but this is just my personal opinion, like, the love interest, there was no chemistry.

I felt like it was not really needed in the movie. That was, like, a whole 30 minutes that was just, like, not necessary, and the Lady Gaga thing, I just thought it was really stupid. I, I, I thought it was so dumb. It wasn't ex- it was just, like, something that they put in the movie to put in the movie. Right.

Um- I found it funny. I di- I found it funny. Yeah. Like, those, uh, uh, I'm nitpicking here, but, um, but I think the movie was very good. Would I die to see it again? No. But the first one, I could see that again tonight- Right ... before I go to bed, you know? But, um, the- I would watch it again over and over again. I would too.

Yeah. I, I enjoyed it very much. But it's, it's- Yeah, yeah, yeah ... I think it's all over the place. Like, some people- Mm-hmm ... feel exactly like you ladies do- Yeah ... that they loved it, and some people just were like, "Oh, it's too much hype," you know? Right. But do I think that if you loved The Devil Wears Prada, the first one, you should definitely see the second one.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. For sure, because there's a lot of closure in, in, in some areas- In some areas ... without ruining the movie too much for you. Yeah. Yeah. But, um, I couldn't believe how ama- well, first of all, everybody looked amazing, but Lucy Liu. She looked great. She looked great. I mean, I could not. Did you see Lucy Liu's dress at the premiere?

I... Is that the one that she was wearing that was black? Yeah, the black lace. I saw it really quickly. I have, I have to see it again. What was this, scandalous? She looked amazing. No, she just looked great. Yeah. She looked amazing- No, they all looked beautiful ... in that dress. I mean, you look at that dress and you think to yourself, "Would I, could I wear that?

Would I wear that?" You know? I don't know. I wouldn't. Yeah. Yeah. She looked amazing. Exactly. Listen, if I had their body, I, I would wear so many things that I would not wear today. Yeah. Because I, you know, I don't feel too confident right now because my body is very different than it was even two years ago, you know?

So that's something that I'm struggling with and trying to get comfortable with my ever-changing body. Um, you know, there were some parts in The Dev- The Devil Wears Prada where they were, like, talking about body positivity. Did you pick up on that? Yeah. Oh, yeah. And they were talking about, you know, being a size six, and I was like, "I would kill to be a size six right now."

You know, and there was some awkward silences in the movie theater when that part came up, I noticed. Yeah. Yeah. In the, in the movie theater that I was at, when that part came up, there wa- you could tell there was a few women that- Well, people can get offended by that, for sure ... that were offended by that.

Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, I, I just think that the fashion was incredible. Yeah. But that's something that I'm still trying to work on because there are a lot of things that I do wanna wear, but like I said, not to keep harping on it, my body's changing, but also I think, "Should I wear that? Can I wear that because I'm an older woman?"

I, I feel that way. Right, I, a lot of people feel that. I think a lot of people feel that way. Yeah. Especially, yeah, as you get older- Mm-hmm ... you definitely, your style changes. Yeah. Mm-hmm. I mean, what's, what's something that you used to wear, Maritza, when you were really, like, young that you loved, and you're, today you'd be like, "I, I would never wear that again"?

Is there something you can think of? No, nothing. 'Cause I can tell you, I used to wear short jean shorts. Like jean shorts. Yeah. Right. And they were, they were kinda, not too short, but they were short. I would never wear that today. Even if, even if I was, even if I could 'cause I had the body for it, I don't think I would.

Does that make sense? Yeah, that pr- yeah. I have, I mean, I wear, I do wear them- Mm-hmm ... but around the house. Do I go out in them? No. Yeah. If I'm, I mean, maybe a short run to Publix and- Yeah ... pray that I don't see anybody I know. But that's, but when I see women that have that courage, and they look great, and they're like- Right

I admire it. And I'm like, I wish I could do that, and I can, but I don't have that confidence just yet. Right, that's the key word. Yeah. It's, it's base- basically on- Mm-hmm ... how, how you feel about- Yeah ... yourself and- Absolutely ... period. So seeing all these women, you know, not just in the movie, but I think in general, like on social media, body positivity, and wom- I follow a lot of, uh, content creators that are- Yeah

in their 50s and 60s, and I'm like, "Oh my God." They're just, their hair's all white Mm-hmm And they, they just look so freaking good. And that makes, that makes me think to myself, "Maybe I'm being a little too hard on myself." I think you are. I think you are. But there's people that will never, that just, they don't like it, and they'll never let their hair grow out.

They'll always dye it till they die. Yeah. Yeah. And I've, I've met a lot of older people that are like that. Mm-hmm. So I just don't, I've, I've never wear my hair gray. Yeah. And that's okay- Yeah ... 'cause that, whatever makes you feel good- Yeah ... do it. Mm-hmm. Yeah, if that makes you feel good, then there's nothing wrong with it.

Right. Yeah. Definitely not. It's really all about what you like. Yeah. It doesn't matter what anyone else- Mm-hmm ... like- You're the one looking at yourself- Right ... in the mirror, so you, yeah, definitely. But I can under- I, I can relate to what Jasmine's saying as well. Yeah. Like, you know, I also have changed my style as well because my body doesn't look the same.

Mm-hmm. So, and my biggest thing is comfort. Yeah. So I wanna be comfortable. Yeah. I wanna look nice, but I wanna be comfortable. So is this comfortable? Am I gonna be comfort- I usually ask myself, am I gonna, am I gonna be comfortable in this all night? Yeah. You know, what can I do to make myself a little bit more comfortable?

Well, it's funny you mentioned that- Yeah ... because, um, some of the rules that are now being broken, especially by women over the age of 40, is, which we've talked about already, the long hair, but also, like, can I wear, like, a short skirt? Um, you know, can I still wear a bikini on the beach? And they're doing it, you know?

Which is, I think, an, an amazing thing that's happening in, in society today. But I also asked myself, okay, not everybody has that confidence, but they still wanna look good, you know? So what are some, like, rules, like, or some reliable things that women can do to make them feel well put together but still kind of modern?

'Cause I started research- researching that for myself. Mm-hmm. And I thought, oh, that might be actually something good for s- maybe somebody listening to this show right now that struggles a little bit with fashion. 'Cause not everybody is into fashion, but they wanna look, like, well put together or nice.

Right. So here are some of the things that I found. It says that invest in foundation pieces. So this is gonna sound silly, but it's the truth. You need to first start with a really good bra. You have to have a good bra that fits you properly, a good strapless bra as well. You need to invest in great quality jeans, a black pair, a dark blue pair, and, like, a, like, a lighter blue pair, a blazer that fits, a good quality white T-shirt, black T-shirt, and a good coat, especially if you live, like, in the colder states.

But here's the thing that blew me away. They're like, why don't people get their clothes tailored? You can pay an extra 15 to 20 to $25. You go to a tailor. You say, "Hey, I bought these jeans. Hey, I bought this, this dress. Hey, I bought..." And just have them tailor it. You can go to a lot of dry cleaners that have- tailoring services, and you can make a 50, $40 dress look like a $500 dress because it fits your body.

So these were some of the... I was like, "It's true." Like, I have so many outfits that I like, but I'm like, "Oh, it's too long. Oh, the arms are too long. Oh, this fits me a little tight." And I'm like, "Why didn't I just take it to the tailor and pay them $15 to make it m- fit my body?" Yeah. That's a good idea. So I thought- Yeah

I thought I would share that today on this show because honestly, I never really thought about doing that, and now I will. Now I will. I, I've thought about it, I just don't. Yeah. I mean- I'm like, uh, I'm not gonna do it ... my mom's a seamstress. Mm-hmm. So I get it done for free. Awesome. But I buy things sometimes, and I'm like, you know...

Um, as a matter of fact, I bought a romper, and, you know, uh, this romper, I don't know, like, you know how some of these pants are a little, little high-water, but that's, like, the style? Yeah. Okay. Well, it drives me crazy. But I like the top s- part of the romper. So I'm looking at myself in the mirror and I'm like, "Oh, this is like...

I hate how high it is," you know, like, to my ankle. And I said, "But they would look good as shorts. Like, make it into a shorts." Okay. So my mom is turning my romper into, instead of pants- Nice ... shorts. But I do that all the time. I f- I find a dress and she, you know, I'm like- Fixes it for you ... to me, I don't like things that are too flowy.

Yeah. I like things n- not tight- Yeah ... but- Fitted ... you know, del cuerpo, you know- Yeah ... like a little, a little- Yeah ... you know, fitted. And, um, I always have, you know, like I'll have her take it in a- Mm-hmm ... take it in a little bit. Yeah. The way, you know, just to the way I like it. That's, um, and it's such a simple thing that makes a huge difference, 'cause I'm gonna tell you what happened.

I bought myself a tropical dress for... I just needed a tropical dress, okay? So I went to a store, I bought it, and the lady told me, "Do you want me to tailor it for you? And you can come pick it up in two days." I always would say no. "No, no, no." Like, I just would say no. And she goes, "It's $20." And I said yes. And she goes, "Okay, go ahead and put the dress on, and I'll meet you in the fitting room."

She came. She took her time. I paid the $20. She's like, she called me a few days later and she's like, "Your dress is ready for pickup." I picked it up. She goes, "Do you wanna try it on before you leave just to make sure?" I usually would say no, but I said yes. It s- it sounds so silly, but I'm gonna get to the point.

I tried it on. It fit exactly for my body. It was the best- Right ... $20 that I spent on tailoring something for my body, and I wish I would've done that ages ago. Mm-hmm. So if you struggle a little bit, maybe you're, maybe you're very petite. Maybe you're, you know, five feet tall or five foot one. It, that's a, that's hard, you know.

Yeah. 'Cause I'm five foot four and I find things to be- Too long ... long. Yeah. Yeah. So people who are under five foot four, they struggle. So yeah, think about it. That's something that I think you're gonna be very pleasantly surprised on how it's gonna, how it's gonna make you feel good when you look in the mirror.

I tell my daughter to do that. If it's too long or if, if it's too tight here- Mm-hmm ... or too loose in one section, go see if you can get it tailored. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah It's, it's a thing here b- well, because my mom's always been a seamstress. Yeah. So people in my family, they know that, so they... My mother-in-law buys dresses, and if it doesn't fit her- Yeah

a certain way that she may like, or maybe it's not covering enough of her shoulders 'cause she doesn't want it to show too much- Yeah ... yeah, my mom does magic. That's awesome. I wish I had- That's awesome ... magic hands I just started doing that. Here's some more suggestions. Do you guys want me to share a few things?

'Cause they're actually pretty good. Yeah. Here it says that if you're gonna wear, um, matching sets, two pieces in the same fabric and color worn together or separately, linen sets in summer, knit sets in winter. Look intentional. Taste is zero thinking. You just grab it, and you put it on, and it photographs beautifully.

This is for people who struggle with knowing what, what to put on, and they gotta go somewhere and look well put together. Um, a good slip dress with a layer. A satin or silk slip dress under a blazer. You can even wear a denim jacket with it or some type of, like, cashmere cardigan, and it looks very well put together, sometimes a little bit sexy, and you do not look sloppy.

Right. You just look well put together. A good quality white T-shirt, like, that is an investment piece. Go get... If it... Whatever it costs you, if it looks good on you, get it, 'cause that's a good investment. And then here it says, uh, trousers. Uh, you wanna get tailored trousers, and you wanna make sure that they're either in black, in, like, a beige color, like neutral colors, or brown.

And a good pointed shoe. It could be even flats. They don't have to be heels. All of these things that I've mentioned are all, like, kinda neutrals, and you can mix-match them. They, they may cost a little money because they're like, um... What do they s- they call it investment pieces. There's always gonna be fashion that's trending.

Right. But then there's fashion that's forever, and I think that's what's taken me a long time because I was always trying to keep up with what's trending, and what's what's, what, what's always trending doesn't necessarily look good on me, you know? Or look good at all. Or look good at all. Or look good at all.

That's a good point. Yeah. That, that whole, uh, Met Gala. Oh, gosh. Those, those... I mean- Yeah ... I don't know what that is. It's the bodycon tight- So what's the theme? ... plastic pieces that they have going on on. Yeah, but what? Why, why do you have antennas coming out of your h- like, I don't understand that. I never understood the themes.

And then the, the dress with the rope, like, the- I'm not sure. We have to ask the- ... the little man that's coming and hugging her. I haven't seen that. The designers. The designers that make them wear this. I honestly, I only saw- I don't know ... a couple, so I'm kinda out of it. I only saw Kim Kardashian, which I didn't think she looked too bad.

I just didn't understand the theme. Did you see the one... Who was the one wearing, it was like a cream? It looked like the dress was being taken off. And it was, like, hanging I didn't see that And there was a pa- the part, the top part was like a, like a shell I don't- But it was- I don't know names ... it almost looked like she was n- nude on top and, like, taking off the dress halfway, like, it was hanging.

There was one that- But what was the theme? I, I only saw- I, I don't- ... a couple pictures, so I feel kind of like, like I can't really participate too much because I don't know a lot. But I will say I never have understood the Met Gala. I don't get it. No, I, I don't get it either. I don't understand it. Why? I mean- I still remember the dress that Kim Kardashian wore that she looked like she was a sofa.

Well, Cardi B looked like she had a sofa on her shoulders. She had this, these pillows, like, here. And, um, it was- Well, I think at that point, that's like, that type of, of fashion is more, like, artistic. It's not stuff that you're gonna wear to Publix. Very artistic, right. That's what I said, it's like, it's more like art.

It is. It, it's definitely art. Because- Yeah ... you have metal pieces and it, it was just weird. One lady looked like she was the Statue of Liberty. Yeah. Yes, I saw that. She was covered- From head to toe ... and Bad Bunny looks like he's aged. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't understand the Bad Bunny thing. I w- I even at, earlier today, I was like, "What was, what was the whole point of that?"

Mm-hmm. But I will tell you, here are some celebrities that I l- look at the way they've been carrying themselves since the, since I've known them as celebrities, and I always felt like, okay, these women always look well put... Granted, they have stylists. I'm, I, I, uh, I'm not trying to say that we can compete with that, but you can mimic maybe what they're wearing and try and find it at a more affordable price for yourself.

So here are some of the style i- icons that I like. Nicole Kidman. She's 58 years old, and I think she's just elevated style without even really- Trying ... trying. Yeah. Do you agree with that about Nicole Kidman? I do. I like her fashion. Mm-hmm. And she always looks put together. Um- Again, I am not a fashion person, so maybe- What's something that you struggle with with fashion, Monica?

Because I know that we've talked about this in the past, and what is it, what is it that... Is it that you don't like it, or is it because you don't feel comfortable shopping for things for yourself? Well, I hate shopping. Oh, you do? I do. Okay. I hate it. Okay. Do not try to ask me to go to the- But you hate it because you don't, you, you're struggling to find stuff for yourself, or you just don't like it?

I just don't like it. Oh, okay, okay. Yeah. I mean, of course I struggle a lot of times to find things that I would like on myself. Yeah. Um, but I just, I hate the being there, trying stuff on- Yeah ... just the whole interaction, just the whole interaction. Well, you know, I have a girlfriend who's similar to you, that she doesn't like shopping.

She doesn't enjoy it. She hates the fitting room. The, the whole concept of taking off her clothes and trying things on in a fitting room is just so uncomfortable to her. So she actually orders a lot... I, I've never done this before, but she does it all the time. She orders a lot of things online, tries them all on at home, and returns everything- Yeah

that she doesn't like. And I told her, "They don't get upset. They don't flag you." She's like, "Jasmine, they don't care, so long as the clothes is not damaged and you haven't taken off..." So that's something that you may start- I've been meaning to try, like- To do that ... I haven't done it, but those, I don't know if you...

I think it's called Stitch, or there's different ones where you provide all your information, your size. You know, you gotta measure yourself- Mm-hmm ... and give them all the measurements. Mm-hmm. And they send you outfits. They shop for you. Yeah, and then you pick what you want- Yes ... you keep it, and you return the rest.

I have a friend who did that. I was like, "Oh, that's pretty interesting." Oh, so you never tried it? No. Okay. No. And it's, it's a little c- like, well, some of them can be- Yeah, it's pricey. Yeah ... it's pricey. It's pricey, but it's legit because once they, once you become their client, and they, they'll, you know, they stay with you, and they get to know you, and then you have, like, your own little stylist.

Your own stylist? Yes. Yes. I know Amazon has that little try before you buy type thing, right, where you pick- Oh, really? I didn't know that. Yeah. You pick these little outfits. You, you, they send it to you- Yeah ... you try it on, and you return it. Yeah. Awesome. We'll see. Try before you buy it? Yeah. Okay. I think, I think people should- I didn't, I haven't done that

honestly, there's people listening to us that are, that feel the same way. I didn't mean to put you out on the spot like that. No. But it's because I know that y- you don't really like it too much. Yeah. Um, but it's necessary because you do get invited to places and, and things, and you need- Yeah ... you know, you need certain outfits.

Yeah. So if you're that type of person, you should look into that. Yeah. That's why I always lean to black. I love black. Why I always lean to black. Can't go wrong with black. But you can't go wrong with, with black. I think black is elegant, classic. You can just wear colorful shoes and colorful earrings, different style hair, and it c- and that little black, that LBD will go a long way, you know?

But here's some more, uh, artists that I think when I see the way they dress, I'm like, oh, and they're older ladies. Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock is 61, Halle Berry 59. Of course, Jennifer Lopez- Yeah ... 56, Salma Hayek 59, and Michelle Obama 62. All of these women are, and Lucy Liu, and all of these women are different ethnicities.

Um, what they share is that they're older women. Right. But they're all Hispanic, Asian, Black, white, you name it. And, um, I'm just like, wow, these are women that I look at, and I may not have their body, or I may not look like them, but I, I like the way they carry themselves, the- their fashion. So I try and go online and maybe find something that they're wearing.

Actually, fun tip here, ladies. There was a, there was a movie I was watching, and this girl was wearing a shirt that I liked. I loved it. I took the picture with my phone, and I put it on, on Go- I went on Google- Google search, mm-hmm ... and I said, "Find it." And not only did it find it, but it found the dupes. Yeah.

Mm-hmm. And I was like, "Why haven't I been doing this?" That and Pinterest. I love Pinterest. Pinterest. It just- Th- there are so many amazing things now out there, ladies, that do not... If you're feeling frumpy, 'cause I have had my frumpy era, please don't do that to yourself. Like, get out of that frumpiness and find yourself again because there's way too much out here to be living.

There's way too much fashion out here for you not to be trying it. But I do like comfort. I'm, I'm a big one on comfort. That's the thing. Yeah. Athletic leisure is a big one. Love it. Yeah. I will- Like you said, pointy shoes- I'm moving to this ... and I was like, "Oh, heck no." I'm gonna wear my sneakers. Yeah. The problem, too- Well, sneakers are great

the shoes, like, they, they're all in n- nothing comes in, um, wide sizes, so if you have wide feet- Yeah ... you're pretty much screwed. Well, they have, they have wide- Not a lot. Not a lot. No, no, not a lot. No. No. But they do have wide- They're all, like, granny-looking shoes, and it's like, eh. Oh. Well, I don't know. I wouldn't say all of them.

Yeah. It, no, it is- Nike doesn't make anything wide. No. No. True. Nothing wide, so if you- Really? Yeah. Nike, you would think that they would. You would think. Yeah, they don't. No. Huh. They don't. Well, there are stores, I mean, companies that specialize on wide- I'm sorry, I thought you- ... wide feet ... you were talking about heels.

That, too. But they do have wide- They do have special places, though ... they do have wide shoes, but they don't look, they're not cute. The shoes that, they come in wide are not- Ooh, girl, I'm gonna hook you up. I'm gonna tag you- You know what I'm saying? I don't know ... on this company on Instagram- I've searched.

I've searched ... that does wide shoes. Yeah. Yeah, I'll send it to you. Not only do they look- This is not your s- yeah Yeah ... not your cup of tea. Yeah. I got you. And I'm not wearing fucking stilettos, so- Yeah. ... not happening. Exactly. Yeah. I love a good stiletto. Fuck that. Not me. I, I used to l- I mean, I used to wear heels all the time, but- Yeah

I barely wear them anymore. Yeah. Just to go to, like, parties, weddings, you know, those kind of things- Mm-hmm ... I will wear heels. Mm-hmm. But when we go out to lunch, I mean, I'm no longer in heels anymore. Yeah. I'm in my sneakers or my sandals, cute sandals. I like to wear heels because I'm, I consider myself petite when it comes to my height.

I'm only five foot three. Mm. I'm actually five foot four, but now I'm five foot three and a half. I'm shrinking. If you want me to be honest. And I feel like a little heel gives me a boost of confidence. Mm-hmm. And, like, you know, it, it raises m- I'm gonna be so embarrassed, but, like, raises my butt a little bit in certain pants and stuff.

So I like the way it looks, but I'm definitely wearing heels that are fat, like a chunky heel. I don't wear the, you know, those thin heels anymore because j- You know, I'll wear them for, like, maybe 20 minutes for a picture or something silly like that. For the grand entrance. For a grand entrance. But shit, I felt it last week.

I was like, "I can't wear this shit no more. I'm gonna die." Yeah. I'm gonna fall down the stairs. I can't. You know, and Monica, you say athletic leisure. I don't know if you saw when, uh, the cast of The Devil Wears Prada was being asked what do they consider fashion faux pas. Did you guys see that? I did. And, well, the first thing that they said was, uh, Crocs.

Yeah. Yeah. Which I thought, I... Listen, I hate Crocs. When I saw the Crocs, uh, that had a heel, I actually contemplated buying them. Oh, really? Yeah, 'cause I thought they were so, like, something that we, I could put, like, away and be in, in the future and be like- Yeah ... "Look, this was a thing." Oh, how fun. You know? Not necessarily wear them, but I thought that might be something that would go down in history as being kind of silly.

Um, but I love athletic leisure, so when they said that they thought athletic leisure was a faux pas, I was like, oh, no. I- Yeah. No, do not take my athletic leisure away. I love it. Well, Emily Blunt was very, very, uh, adamant about, she loves it. She lives in it. If she could, she would live in it. Yeah. She, of course, she's not gonna wear it to the gala or- Yeah

anything like that, but- Yeah ... yeah. She loves it. She loves it. But there's a lot of companies now that have athletic leisure, um, clothes. It feels like athletic leisure, but it's more like a trouser and a- Yeah. And, and, uh, and technically it's still considered athletic leisure because of the type of material- Yeah

that they're using. Yeah. But I think they look so well put together and so polished that I was like, I completely disagree. But the Crocs, those things are ugly as shit. Mm-hmm. And Anne Hathaway was, like, in favor of the Crocs. That was- They're comfortable. I mean, I don't own a pair. My kids have Crocs. Yeah.

And I'll slip them on to, to go outside or- Yeah ... you know, throw trash away, whatever. Yeah. Yeah, I wear them- They're comfortable ... in the house. Yeah. Like, outside- They're comfortable ... in the backyard. But I wouldn't- Yeah. I'm not gonna hang out all day- But it's like, I would see a hot next in the Crocs ... or go to the park.

Yeah, no. Yeah, but it's like if you see a really, really good-looking man, and you're like, "Wow," and then he's wearing Crocs, it's like, it's over. I'm done. That, like, I can't. I don't wanna look at you. Just walk away. Oh, they don't bother me that much. But that, that's what they say. A, a, a man that's aging is distinguished.

Mm. Right? They say that, but women, women I think it's getting better. I think it's getting better for women that, that are aging, but we're still not like the men like that. Men would- I think, I think for women it's harder. It's harder. Like you say- Yeah ... it's, like, how you're feeling. Yeah. How you're feeling.

Yeah. Now sometimes we get bloated. Mm-hmm. You know, like, all these things kinda- Yeah ... you know, you think about your outfit. Yeah. You second-guess yourself. Yeah. If I feel like wearing this today, I'm like- Yeah ... how, how do I- You know, I'm gonna say something that's very vulnerable, but I think it's, it's important to be authentic and to be transparent.

And I've always liked to feel pretty. I like- I've always liked to feel a little, a little sexy. And, um, I'm struggling with that. I d- I don't, I, I have days that I don't feel like that about myself anymore. I don't have that confidence, which is un- I think which is understandable. Um, and it brings me down, you know?

I can relate to that. I can- It, it brings me down ... but I do also- Yeah ... I've always, well, I've actually- Yeah ... my dad has kind of put that in my brain- Yeah ... to always look good, to always dress up, you know, like that kinda thing. Yeah. I don't know if sexy is the word for me, but- Yeah, I don't know if that's the right word, but- But I do like to look nice. I like- Yeah ... to look pretty. Yeah. I think now, where I'm at now, I'm just- Mm-hmm ... kinda like, "Uh-uh, I just wanna be comfortable." Yeah. Like, I'm like, "Let me try to find something pretty- Yeah ... pretty comfortable." That's a good one. You know what I mean? Yeah. It's like- Yeah ... I just, right now, that's my big thing. And I think- Yeah ... I think that's normal when, especially when your body changes a lot, you know, 'cause I used to know what looked good on me.

Right. And I know, okay, even if I'm having a bad day and I'm bloated or I got my period or whatever, I know that that's gonna look good on me. Not anymore. Not anymore. I can relate. Not anymore, and I'm like, "Shit." Yeah. Like, that was my, that was my I-can-put-this-on-and-I-know-I'm-gonna-look-nice outfit. Yeah. And I'm like, "Well, what is it now?"

Yeah. It popped up on his phone. He goes, "Oh, honey, look," and it was a picture of me and, uh, and three girlfriends that I used to work with at a job from, you know, almost eight years ago, and it was, um, it was a birthday party that they invited me to. This was only eight years ago. Mm-hmm. I looked at that picture, and I was like, "Oh, my God, I look so young."

This little part here, the collarbone. You could see my collarbone. Now you ain't see no collarbone, you know? I know it's still in there. Um, and I, it made me feel a certain way.

I was just like, "Shit," you know? And that's why I'm glad we're doing this show because I'm sure there's a lot of women that feel this way, but maybe they don't say it out loud. Mm-hmm. Or maybe they just say it quietly to someone that they trust and they feel bad. But trust me, I struggle with it. Yeah. And I'm, I'm gonna pull myself together and find what works for me now.

I have... Like, I cleaned out my closet. That really helped me. Like, I, I really just was like, "I'm gonna let this go because this is a part of my life that I'm not 37 anymore. Why am I with these outfits of when I was 37 and 38 when I'm gonna be 50 years old?" It's time to invest in things that are gonna make me feel...

Not that I'm giving up. I wanna make that clear. I am not- No ... giving up, but I'm also s- embracing a new phase of my life. It's funny you say that 'cause I actually- Mm-hmm ... just did the same thing. Really? I cleaned out my closet and- Mm-hmm ... there's just stuff that I feel like don't work for me now. Okay. And I've gotten rid of it, and I'm trying New things Good for you Yeah.

Like, okay, let me try this dress. I've... Something that I really never worn- Mm-hmm ... a kind of dress like this. Yeah. Let me try it. I went to a wedding last year, um, November, I think it was, and I sent you the picture of that dress. Yeah. You look great. I've never worn a dress like that. Mm-hmm. It's, you know, lengthy.

I don't like long dresses. Okay. But... And out of my comfort zone as well. Mm-hmm. I was choosing between that one and another one, and I sent you the pictures, and, um, you picked that one. Mm-hmm. And I liked it. I liked the dress- You look gorgeous ... a lot, 'cause that's why I bought it. I was like, "Oh." But at the same time, I'm like, "I've never worn a dress like this."

Yeah. And anyways, I wore the dress, and somebody else saw the picture of me, and they were like, "Wow, you look really pretty. I've never seen you in a long dress." Mm-hmm. You know? And I'm like, "Yeah, I'm trying new things." Trying new things. Yeah. That's, uh... Aw. It did. It made me sad. So now I'm just kinda like, okay, well, maybe you can't wear the tank top, but you could wear, like, a, a cute T-shirt or something. I don't know. I'm just trying to still- Yeah ... figure that out. I gotcha. But I ain't fucking wearing a cardigan. That ain't fucking happening. When that shit happens, it's o- game over.

Um, you know, one of the things that I'm happy to see now, especially when we go shopping, is that they are trying to put a little bit of more effort into clothing for older women. I don't know, have you guys noticed that or not really?

No. No? I did. I went to Macy's, the department store, and I noticed that there was a lot of more options for women in, like, maybe their 40s, 40s and 50s. Yeah. Um, and it wasn't, like, ugly. Consumers over the age of 50 hold 72% of the United States personal wealth and account for nearly half of the fashion global spending power.
